Have you heard how the right music can improve plants?
Have you ever wondered about gardeners who believe that playing music to their plants improves their healthy & vitality?
The sounds we hear with our ears are air vibrations, occurring in different combinations of frequencies. Our brain then interprets these vibrations to have different meanings, developing our sense of hearing and understanding.
But plants don’t have ears so how can they possible hear anything, let alone rock on to music playing?
The good news is plants have vibration receptors built into their structure that enable them to feel agitation in the air around them. In their natural environment, these changes in air movement would be primarily triggered by breezes blowing around them.
There have been many controlled trials done by qualified horticulturalists but there is no conclusive outcome to either prove or reject the music-enhancing-growth hypothesis. There is however substantial commentary to support the observation that the genre of music matters, with respect to the level of vibrations sensed by the plants. This volume level is directly related to how much energy they feel. The most common Improvements have been related to faster plant growth with earlier blooming of flowers, increased fruit & vegetable production, and improved nutritional uptake by the plants. And as a natural consequence of being healthier, the plants are more resistant to bugs & pests.
Higher frequency music appears' to have a negative impact on the plants, perhaps due to the plants vibrating at a rapid cycle which overstress their structures. Lower frequencies around 300kHz and lower produce the best vitality in plants, perhaps because they best simulate those frequencies naturally occurring.
Various studies have concluded that too much music can be damaging to plant health so plan your outdoor music sessions to last no longer than three hours per day.
