Great holidays are made of great memories in Moreton Bay

It’s already the middle of 2021 and the school holidays break is almost upon us again. Need some ideas of what to do on Bribie Island (other than great value shopping experiences) to keep the whole family entertained?

Bribie Island is a large coastal sand mass formed thousands of years ago when shifting sands started to collect on underwater coffee rock, forming a sand barrier island. The resulting groundwater aquifers accumulated both black water & white water reserves which then irrigated the seeds & pant matter deposited by visiting fauna flora from the adjacent Toorbul Point mainland. This attracted wildlife to move house from the surrounding coastlines of north Brisbane & Sunshine Coast regional environments.

80% of the island’s population lives on the west coast, overlooking the Pumicestone Channel, the Sunshine Coast’s passage to Moreton Bay (Quandamooka). Here you will discover the best retail precincts, foreshore parks and stunning sunsets to make your stay more enjoyable. Plan to base yourself at Bongaree, Bellara or Banksia Beach for the ultimate west coast island experience, just across the Bribie Bridge from Sandstone Point.

Woorim is a sleepy little seaside town on the east coast overlooking the Coral Sea and Moreton Island to the south. If you like to relax amongst the sound of crashing waves & whistling ocean breezes, this is the spot for you. Wild Banks Artificial Reef using fish caves was created east of Woorim township, to the north of Moreton Island. This is a popular spot for anglers & day trippers to visit for the purposes of spearfishing, recreational & charter fishing and even scuba diving. Just to the south of this reef is the North Moreton Artificial Park where you can enjoy similar activities. Remember to adhere to good boating safety rules & regulations when boating in Moreton Bay Marine Park

Bribie Island is a gazetted National Park & recreation area for Greater Brisbane and adjacent areas of the Great Dividing Range. Even locals from west of the Black Stum in Blackall love to visit our back-to-nature camping experiences. Be sure to organise your 4x4 vehicle pass prior to arriving to ensure you are permitted to drive in these regulated camping areas.

So pack up the car & head east these school holidays and get back to Bribie Island naturally.
