Healthy gardening is easy with a few basic principles.

Love you gardening so much that it’s taken over your house & property? Perhaps you have unknowingly created your own type of mini botanical garden?

A botanic or botanical garden is a zone set aside for the collecting, propagating, preserving varieties of plants. These plants need to be labelled with their botanical names & displayed for workers & visitors to read.

The plants displayed may be focussed on your local area’s flora which in our case would be the Moreton Bay region. Other forms of collections may highlight a state’s native plants, or perhaps even include national & international specimens too.

Redcliffe Botanic Gardens primarily exhibit local plants through their property. Similarly, the Ben Bennett Botanical Park in Caloundra focuses on the native flora found on the Sunshine Coast region of Queensland.

Maroochydore have their own patch of green paradise that contains healthy east coast regional bushland specimens in a spectacular location that includes a lagoon & sculpture garden.

For a great example of a commercial version, the Maleny Botanic Gardens have a sensational collection of plants carefully planted in stepped hill-side terraces, with breath-taking views of the Glasshouse Mountains to frame their picture-perfect location.

Your local garden centre or plant nursery on Bribie Island & surrounding areas are great examples of plant collections using good botanic principles, with the added bonus that you can buy them for your home garden too. Take time out to first plan the layout of your gardens. Consider the sunlight available in the different beds around your property. The western sun is harsher than the early morning eastern sun so you’ll need to plant hardy varieties to suit the hotter climate conditions. Consider using locally sourced natives that are waterwise & require less maintenance. You want to have time to enjoy the fruits of your labours rather than having to constantly upkeep your gardens or find a gardener to do it for you.

Today, come explore Grow Nursery at the rear of Inner Room Bribie & Village Deli Bongaree. We stock highlight & feature plants to enhance your mass plantings from other Bribie garden centres. Our Bribie Island nursery is open 7 days in Bongaree Village, a local Bribie shopping centre near the Pumicestone Channel & passage to Moreton Bay water sports.
